Cannabis Is An Excellent Treatment For Fibromyalgia
Cannabis is helping Fibromyalgia in men in many different ways. In this article, we will discuss what fibromyalgia is, how it affects men differently than women, the traditional treatment options for fibromyalgia, how cannabis can help and much more.  There is a lot of controversy surrounding fibromyalgia, how it effects individuals, what causes it, is it real and much more.
Fibromyalgia in men is more common than many people realize. This disease is considered to be an invisible disease. To many people, including some healthcare professionals, Fibromyalgia is thought to be all in the patient's head. This however could not be farther from the truth. Fibromyalgia is a real condition, and it causes real, severe pain on a constant basis. This disease is commonly associated with female patients as the number of diagnoses in male patients are significantly less than in females.
It is scientifically proven that fibromyalgia is a neurochemical disease and that those individuals who suffer from fibromyalgia show a consistently larger amount of substance P than what is average in most people. Substance P is a neurotransmitter that signals pain in the body. These patients also showed significantly lower amounts of serotonin which is also a neurotransmitter. Serotonin on the other hand is a neurotransmitter that inhibits pain.
Under Diagnosed
Because men are so less frequently diagnosed with this disorder many of them are not taken seriously about their pain. Unfortunately, the drug epidemic in the United States as well as around the world has led many doctors to believe that those who complain about having pain are simply drug addicts in search of pain pills. This has a severe negative effect for those who legitimately suffer from severe and constant pain such as the many men who suffer from fibromyalgia.
Fibromyalgia is not just pain. For many men it is a fearful condition that leads to anxiety about common lifestyle activities and moments. Men suffering with fibromyalgia are not able to do what many consider to be "man things" such as working on cars, mowing yards, fishing, throwing a baseball with their grandkids and other activities without suffering from severe pain. This can lead to stress, anxiety, depression and much more.
Traditionally fibromyalgia is treated with a regimen of pharmaceutical narcotics that are typically opiate based. These pharmaceutical medications are highly addictive and have a long list of adverse side effects associated with them. Often individuals who are prescribed these opiates become addicted to them and see a deterioration of their health due to the side effects and long term use.
Luckily there are some places in the United States where these patients can find relief with an alternative to opiate-based pharmaceuticals. In places such as Colorado, Washington and Oregon anyone over the age of 21 can legally obtain cannabis as an alternative to prescription pain pills to help mitigate the pain that is suffered from living with Fibromyalgia.
Cannabis Combats the Chronic Pain
Many of these individuals are able to consume cannabis and eliminate narcotics prescribed by their doctors from their therapeutic regimen completely.
Cannabis consumption can help with many symptoms associated with fibromyalgia in men. One of the worst sides that men typically experience from fibromyalgia pain is the lack of sleep. When your sleep pattern is disrupted, it causes you to be irritable and moody. This also will cause a change in your appetite leading to malnutrition. The combination of malnutrition and lack of sleep is a dangerous duo. Top that off with the excruciating chronic pain associated with fibromyalgia and you are messing around with a dangerous cocktail.
Making a Bad Situation Worse
It is not a good idea to take a dangerous situation and infuse it with even more dangerous narcotics. OxyContin, Percocet, Vicodin, and other forms of hydrocodone are the choice medications for the treatment of fibromyalgia. Often times these pills do not work and cause more harm than they do good. A good majority of individuals state they have amazing success utilizing cannabis consumption to treat their fibromyalgia.
Men often find that a good strain of Indica helps them to sleep at night while Sativas help them to be motivated to hit the gym and do their daily routine. This leads to proper eating habits and an overall healthier way of being. When you're eating right and sleeping right you also will avoid dangerous conditions such as anxiety and depression. Cannabis helps to eliminate and control all of the above symptoms. Never before has there been such a diverse medicine on the market. It's easy to see why the pharmaceutical industry did not want the world to know about the true healing natures and capabilities associated with marijuana.
Fibromyalgia in men and marijuana consumption go hand in hand when it comes to treatment of this horrible chronic condition. Nobody should have to suffer in pain, and nobody should be forced to take prescription medications to treat their pain when they have a natural and safe alternative. Prescription drugs come with a long list of harmful and potentially deadly side effects. Everything from dizziness and memory loss to dry mouth and loss of sexual function. How is that even a good idea? Cannabis is completely natural and has 0 deaths ever associated with it unlike any pharmaceutical drug on the planet.
Pills Kill and Cannabis Heals
Even aspirin and Tylenol have deaths and overdoses associated with them. Marijuana has been utilized as a medication for thousands of years now and dates way back into Chinese culture where it was first recorded in history by a Chinese medicine man. The many multiple applications of marijuana as a medicinal option for Americans has been denied to them for far too long. This is changing now thanks to marijuana legalization, and the studies are showing on a continual and regular basis that marijuana is effective as a medication.
For this reason it needs to be declassified from the controlled substances act and marijuana prohibition needs to come to an end. When people are allowed to medicate utilizing marijuana as a product, and there are no regulations or stipulations, we will have a healthier, happier nation. Marijuana also plays an effective role in helping to treat fibromyalgia in men by saturating the body's natural endocannabinoid receptors known as CB1 and CB2 with cannabinoids.
The separation of these receptors helps to create two-way communication throughout the entire body between nerves and cells. This effective two-way communication helps to reduce inflammation and inflammatory issues throughout the body. One of the main causes or symptoms that triggers Fibromyalgia is pressure or inflammation. By reducing pressure and inflammation, you help to reduce the symptoms of fibromyalgia. Cannabis is very effective in this area and is being solidified as an effective treatment.
Time Will Prove What Many Already Know
As more studies are conducted and the solidity of these statements are verified many people will start utilizing cannabis as the alternative treatment for fibromyalgia in men and women. Education about the medication known as cannabis is important to help the public make an informed decision when legalization comes to their ballots or in front of their legislators. Marijuana prohibition must come to an end and cannabis legalization needs to happen around the United States as well as around the world so that legal, natural and safe relief can be found by the thousands of individuals that suffer with this very real and painful condition.

UK Law on Medical Marijuana
In the United Kingdom use of marijuana in any form remains illegal, though there are growing calls for legalising the drug for medical use. There are some exceptions to the ban currently in place and in certain (very limted) circumstances doctors can prescribe Sativex on a private prescription and at the prescribing doctors own risk. The law is explained further HERE.

The aim of this site is to raise awareness of Fibromyalgia and associated conditions in men. It is specifically aimed at, but not exclusive to, male sufferers, their carers and families affected by the syndrome.
